RoadTripKit

Road trip games for the whole car.

RoadTripKit is a set of road trip games that every phone and tablet in the car can join with one short car code. Each kid plays at their own level, and points from every game land on one family scoreboard.

I started it for our family’s spring break drive in 2026 and rebuilt it this fall. A grown-up runs the trip from a co-pilot console, with screen-time limits, quiet hours and approvals, and the games keep working with no signal.

What’s interesting about it

Works with no signal

Every device keeps playing offline. When phones reconnect, their changes merge: points earned on two phones add up, and a plate found on either one counts.

Location stays on the phone

State-line stamps come from GPS, checked on the device against built-in state borders. The location never leaves the phone.

No accounts

A family is a car code, not a sign-up. Each kid picks a four-number or four-picture code, which keeps siblings out of each other’s points.

AI only where it helps

In the iPhone app, Claude writes fresh trivia rounds, Mad Libs and a story chapter for each state line. The browser version plays built-in questions and stories, so it never calls the AI.
